THERA-BAND EXERCISE TUBING – LATEX TUBING
Mon, Aug 23, 2010
- The only resistive exercise tubing endorsed by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)
- Different resistance levels are determined by thickness of the tubing
- Portable and versatile with virtually unlimited uses
- Cost much less than other exercise equipment sold with claims of achieving similar results
Made of natural rubber, exercise tubing is available in seven lengths of progessive resistance. Resistance levels, obtained by varying the thickness of the tubing, are color-coded in proprietary Thera-Band colors increasing in difficulty through seven levels from tan to silver. The color-coding system provides positive reinforcement and feedback for gauging results. In general, tan and yellow are used for early rehabilitation or very frail individuals. The most common resistances are red, green

I originally bought a kit elsewhere with handles, 3 assorted tubes with clips, and a couple of accessories. I love the idea, and have found a lot of easy ways to exercise at home. My back deck has a wood arbor above it, and I can put these around a horizontal wood piece, and do a lot of exercises involving pulling down (like pullups, etc), or I can loop it around a vertical post and do other exercises, including leg exercises.
But the ones I bought keep breaking, so I bought the bulk cable, which is much cheaper than the kit. It’s also got much heavier duty tubes, so I don’t need to use so many at one time. Also, I have the ability to make different sizes to expand the types of exercises I do.
One thing to be aware of is that sometimes (at least with the 25 foot lengths), it may not be a continuous length. In my case, there were two pieces in some, but the total length was more than 25 feet; since I intended to cut it into pieces anyway, it was OK. I mentioned that it wasn’t one piece, and they offered to swap it for me, and seemed very motivated to make sure I was happy with the product. If the length is important to you, you might want to contact them first and let them know via their toll-free number listed with the product (866-263-0674).
I was disappointed with the customer service rep, who made promises to send email with a special offer for a future purchase for my trouble, but failed to follow up – I never got anything.

The tubing itself is great quality and seems to be capable of lengthy repeated use. However, even though silver is rated as super heavy I find that it does not offer enough resistance and wish that Theraband would manufacture a gold tubing to match the gold band that they already offer.

Product works as advertised, just wish that there was a lb. rating on the pull of the band. This would make it easier for consumers to pick the right strength rating. I like the product and it works as advertised but its a little weak for my purposes.
