I just received my Empower 10lb kettlebell. What a disappointment. As the reviewer stated for the 15lb model, it sounds like it’s filled with sand. It would be helpful if that was stated under the product description. Personally, when swinging a kettleball around, I don’t want to feel the weight of it’s contents shifting, no matter how slight. Also, the fact that it’s some sort of plastic material filled with sand of course means that it’s larger than a 10lb cast iron kettlebell. You could probably use a small laundry detergent bottle and fill it with 10lbs worth of whatever and use it pretty much the same way. I will be returning this and have already placed an order for the Go Fit which is iron with a vinyl covering (I hope!). I can’t comment on the DVD as I didn’t get that far.

I love both the 10-lb and the 15-lb – I can use them together or separately, and in terms of space, it is incredibly convenient to store them and work out with them. I also bought the “Goddess” DVD, which at first, I did not consider, b/c the title sort of put me off, but it’s pretty hard core, and its exactly what a marathoner-in-training like me needs. Besides, the instructor is excellent, she knows what she’s talking about and you just can’t go wrong with this women’s workout mentored by Pavel Tsatsouline! Be ready to feel the pain, but oh, does it take years off of your body!sp

I love It. After trying this the first time, every muscle I had hurt. I let my family and friends try it, and they too felt the after effect. This is awesome. Great exercise.

Admittedly, it may seem too early for me to review the Empower Kettlebell & DVD I received yesterday. However, based on past workout purchases, and experiences, I believe this one’s a keeper. I went for the 10-pound Kettlebell, and feel this is a good choice. It comes with a DVD with three levels of workouts, starting with one for beginners such as myself. It also includes warmup and cool-down routines, which are highly recommended before and after each workout respectively.
I started today, and after just one workout, I can already feel my core, leg, and arm muscles reacting to workout #1. While I have a little trouble with the 10-pound weight for some of the curl exercises, I modify the exercises to accommodate my lack of strength, and believe the 10-pound bell was a good choice because it allows me more room to grow — which will be marked by my eliminating the need for modifications before moving on to the second workout.
In facing my 61st birthday, I’m active, and want to stay that way. This is why I’m determined to get in the best shape of my life (even in my early years, I’ve never been big on exercise). I started a month ago by purchasing a pair of Skecher Shape-ups, and taking brisk walks with my dogs each morning. To break the monotony, I purchased an MP3 player, and download books from the library. The time flies by!
I added resistance weeks ago with a trip to the gym, intent on going and working out every other day. Then reality hit. It took too long to get dressed, get my walk in, and then go to the gym, work out, come home and clean up. My mornings were shot. So I needed another way to achieve my goal.
A friend told me about Kettlebells. Now, after just one short Kettlebell workout, I’ve accomplished as much as when using several machines at the gym. The best part is it’s fast. I can hop out of bed, and get it done quickly.
Based on numerous past workout experiences and money wasted on a variety of machines and other programs and gimmicks, I’m convinced this is what I’ve been searching for. I’d recommend it to anyone thinking of starting to get in shape, and wanting fast results. If you’re new to working with weights, which I am not, you might want to start with the Empower 5-Pound KettleBell with DVD, and then work your way up to heavier Kettlebells. The kettlebell has a comfortable handle and I did like the video that came with it. However, as another reviewer pointed out, the sand inside it shifts the weight, which I felt could potentially cause an injury as you swing it. If they use sand, it should be filled to the maximum so you don’t feel the shift in weight. I would recommend against this bell and purchase one that is solid. The description of the item should have said it was sand filled.
